Online Information Technology Degree from Westwood CollegeBusiness relies heavily on information and network technologies across a wide range of services. In our Information Technology associate degree program we'll provide you with the skills required to design, install, configure and maintain network and technology infrastructures. You will be prepared to enter a variety of career fields and earn industry-relevant certifications.*

Program features include:

  • courses that prepare you for additional industry certifications, such as CompTia®, Microsoft®, VMware® or Cisco®
  • more than 60 percent of total contact hours delivered via hands-on lab training, preparing you for meaningful employment
  • a broad-based technology core program featuring key topics, like cloud computing essentials, operating systems, desktop hardware and server administration
  • six areas of emphasis that provide preparation for further specific certifications - you'll select one to incorporate into your program of study:

  • Course Info

    An information technology associate degree opens up a world of possibilities. Core course topics for all areas of emphasis include:

    • Introduction to Networks
    • Introduction to Network Security
    • Cloud Computing Essentials
    • Linux® Operating Systems
    • Installing and configuring Windows Server
    • Technical Applications for Today's Society

    Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

    • Install industry-relevant operating systems
    • Administer server environments 
    • Troubleshoot hardware and software 
    • Perform administrative functions in an information technology environment 
    • Provide effective communication of technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences

    Core classes prepare you for certification

    Upon completion of your core classes, you will have already gained the knowledge required to attempt to earn important certifications including:

    CompTIA A+ Exam 220-801
    CompTIA A+ Exam 220-802

    The CompTIA A+ certifications cover preventative maintenance, basic networking, installation, troubleshooting, communication and professionalism.

    CCENT Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician validates the ability to install, operate and troubleshoot a small enterprise branch network, including basic network security.

    In this emphasis, you will learn to:

    • plan, implement, upgrade or monitor security measures for the protection of computer networks and information
    • ensure appropriate security controls are in place to safeguard digital files and vital electronic infrastructure
    • respond to security breaches and viruses
    Westwood will also help prepare you for the following essential certification:*

    CCNA Security validates that you have the knowledge and skills required to secure Cisco® networks.

    In this emphasis, you will learn to:

    • design, install, support and maintain VoIP and telephony products for an organization
    • perform and ensure that network or united communications architecture is functioning efficiently
    • program/upgrade communication networks and software

    Cisco Certified Network Associate Voice
    CCNA Voice validates that you have the knowledge and skills required to configure, implement and support wireless LANs, specifically those networks using Cisco® equipment.

    CCNA Wireless validates that you have the knowledge and skills required to administer a voice network.

    In this emphasis, you will:

    • gain skills in information security, firewall administration, network security, and virtual private networks, and learn how to detect and prevent cyber attacks
    • learn to protect Windows clients and servers from attack in a Windows-based network environment 
    • explore ways to evaluate network vulnerabilities, plan network monitoring and security tools and apply strict security policies
    Certification preparation in this area of emphasis is taught in the core classes.*

    In this emphasis, you will learn to:

    • install, configure and support an organization’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN) and Internet systems or a segment of a network system
    • monitor a network to ensure network availability to all system users
    • perform necessary maintenance to support network availability

    Westwood will also help prepare you for the following essential certifications:*

    Microsoft® Certified Solutions Associate
    The MCSA will certify you to design and implement server networks in an office environment. 

    MCSE Desktop Infrastructure
    By becoming MCSE: Desktop Infrastructure certified, you can help companies support the work styles of the modern marketplace without sacrificing corporate security.

    The VMware® certifications will demonstrate your ability to install and configure the VMware View Environment and enable View Client users.
