Through career-focused, hands-on courses and a real-world externship, a Westwood College medical assisting diploma will give you the skills and training you'll need to support the doctors and nurses of a medical facility and help them provide quality healthcare to their patients. Your courses will be modeled after the workplace, giving you the valuable experience you'll need as you enter this field.

Program features include:

  • an externship providing you with hands-on job training
  • coursework that helps prepare you for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification exam* (cost of the exam covered by Westwood)
  • courses focusing on front and back office functions of the medical field
  • classes focusing on healthcare terminology, procedures and administration

    A medical assisting diploma opens up a world of possibilities. Course topics include:

    • Medical Terminology
    • Patient Relations
    • Phlebotomy
    • Minor Surgical and Specialty Procedures

    All of your courses in this program will be technical and specific to your diploma.

    Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

    • Describe the terminology and procedures involved in patient care and healthcare delivery
    • Exhibit competence in clinical and administrative duties as a medical assistant
    • Demonstrate standard safety practices and procedures
    • Demonstrate effective communication skills with patients and providers
    • Demonstrate competence in cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills related to medical assisting
    • Perform medical assisting competencies within legal and ethical boundaries
