Westwood College Receives "Bridging The Gap" Award From Job Corps For Helping To Change The Lives Of Hundreds Of Youth In The Region

Washington, DC – Westwood College was recently honored by the Job Corps of Maryland and Washington, DC with the Bridging the Gap Award for its outstanding dedication and commitment to helping change the lives of so many Job Corps graduates in the region. Westwood College is the only college or university to receive this award.

“Westwood College is thrilled to receive this honor and share in the excitement of the Job Corps graduates when they realize college is in fact an option for them,” said Gary Hoffman, Business Development Representative for Westwood College.

The Bridging the Gap award specifically recognizes Westwood’s admissions team for their partnership with the Workforce and their consistent willingness to go above and beyond in helping these students reach their goal of obtaining a college degree.

“Westwood has been instrumental in helping us to shape young lives,” said Kevin Boston, Business & Community Liaison Manager for the Woodland Job Corps Center. “From making presentations on admissions, financial aid and the application process Westwood College has motivated and encouraged our students to focus on obtaining a higher education.”

Job Corps is the nation's largest career technical training and education program. It is administered by the U.S. Department of Labor and helps young people ages 16 through 24 improve the quality of their lives through vocational and academic training. Job Corps helps to provide eligible young men and women with an opportunity to gain the experience they need to begin a career or advance to higher education.

“Over the past year Westwood College has helped scores of Job Corps graduates successfully transition to college life by offering small class sizes and individualized attention,” continued Hoffman. “We hope this partnership is just the beginning of a broader national program with Job Corps.”
