Westwood College faculty member named Purdue University Calumet Alumni Leader

DENVER (January 8, 2009) – Richard Gianni, a senior faculty member at Westwood College-River Oaks Campus, was recently recognized by Purdue University Calumet as an outstanding Alumni Leader. As one of a handful of honorees, Gianni was honored during the 2009 Alumni Leaders Day held on the Purdue Calumet campus in Hammond, Indiana.

Annually, each department at Purdue University Calumet recognizes an alumnus as the most successful graduate from that discipline. Award winners are selected by the faculty based on their professional success. This year, Gianni was nominated by the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.
“Rick is no stranger to accolades,” said James Kapitan, campus academic dean of Westwood College-River Oaks Campus. “He is an outstanding instructor and has been consistently recognized for his work. In addition to this award from Purdue, Rick also received a Magic in the Classroom Award from Westwood College, which honored him for his engaging classroom activities.”

Gianni is a senior faculty member at Westwood College, located in Calumet City, Illinois where he teaches composition, research, various general education courses as well as a course in terrorism for the School of Criminal Justice. He earned an undergraduate degree in secondary education, social studies and a graduate degree in history from Purdue University Calumet.
