Westwood College doubles number of degrees offered in Dallas and Fort Worth to meet demands of the changing workforce

Six New Three-Year Bachelor’s Degrees Will Offer Opportunities in Growing Fields

DALLAS/FORT WORTH (February 9, 2010) – Westwood College announced today it has doubled the number of degree programs previously offered at its Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas campuses. As part of this, both campuses will provide six new bachelor’s degree programs and one new associate degree in some of the state’s most in-demand and employable fields such as computer forensics, business, accounting and marketing management. Classes for the new programs are now available.

The new Westwood offerings include:

The Texas unemployment rate has jumped to 8.0 percent -- a nearly 50 percent increase since the state low in December 2007 and getting closer the state’s historical high of 9.3 percent in October 1986. By designing the new programs to include the specific skill sets employers are now looking for, students will graduate with the tools necessary to enter this very competitive job market.

"We are very happy to expand our programs so dramatically at our Dallas and Fort Worth campuses," said Rick Skinner, regional vice president, Westwood College. "We introduced bachelor’s degrees last February as they are highly desired and often required to enter many fields. We’ve seen incredible interest and it is obvious that in this tough economy, people are aggressively preparing themselves for new careers, or retooling an existing career, as a means to get ahead."

Unlike traditional universities, Westwood College offers three-year bachelor’s degree programs. According to Skinner, "Most of our bachelor’s degree programs are completed in no more than three years because our students know exactly what career they want and are motivated to get into the workforce. Upon graduation, 78 percent of the students from our Dallas campus and 86 percent of the students from our Fort Worth campus are finding jobs*. We are incredibly proud of this success rate and expect these additional programs will help our students even more."

Students can go online to www.westwood.edu to register or learn more about the new Dallas and Fort Worth degree programs or contact a representative at either campus directly.
