Westwood College Atlanta Northlake Students Attend BEEP Conference

Career Fair and Lecture Series Announced

Westwood College students from the Atlanta Northlake Campus participated in their first Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP) Conference at Clark Atlanta University last month. Westwood Career Development Services Director Reginald D. Lewis organized the group that included: Christopher Akpan, Marketing Management; Natalia John, Healthcare Management; Jahmal Parris, Marketing Management and Latoya Silver, Marketing Management.

Westwood College’s Career Services Department recently established a partnership with Clark Atlanta University and Spelman College, which sponsors the BEEP Conference. During the conference, Visiting Professors lecture in credit-bearing courses that correspond to their industries and participate in other BEEP related activities such as networking sessions, workshops and mock job interviews.

Celebrating its 40th year, the Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP) is a voluntary partnership between the National Urban League, corporate America, government, non-profits, and other institutions to loan African-American executives to participating colleges as "Visiting Professors." The BEEP program provides an opportunity for professionals and corporations to give back to their communities and help African-American college students achieve their goals.

BEEP’s mission is to share the learning experience across generations, cultivate new leaders, and inspire achievements “beyond the possible” through committed involvement and operational excellence. BEEP prepares students to become the sophisticated and knowledgeable employees that corporate America and its global competitors are seeking. It exposes students to working professionals in their fields of interest and familiarizes them with the demands and expectations of those industries.

As a follow up to the conference, the campus has scheduled at Guest Lecturer Series and Career Fair on May 11, 2010. Companies attending will include UPS, Fulton County Clerk of Superior Court’s Office, Office Team, Accountemps, and Eye Physicians Surgeons. Reginald Lewis wants everyone on campus to join in the excitement of the event. “We welcome all to join us as we seek to continuously expand our network of industry professionals seeking to educate, encourage and employ our students and graduates,” he said. The event is free and open to all Westwood College students.
