School recognized for its efforts at Misericordia award dinner
DENVER, September 9, 2010 – Hundreds of Westwood College Chicago Loop Campus staff, faculty and students recently participated in a fundraising event that helped Misericordia, a Chicago-area nonprofit offering support to individuals with developmental disabilities, reach a $1 million fundraising goal.
During Jelly Belly Candy Days, Misericordia’s annual fundraising event, nearly thirty percent of Westwood College’s student and staff population suited up in red and white vests, and dispersed across State Street near Westwood College’s Chicago’s Loop Campus. Throughout the day, Westwood volunteers took donations, and handed out Misericordia “thank you” cards and complimentary bags of Jelly Belly® Jelly Beans raising more than $66,000 for the organization.
Carl Cooper, program chair for the Criminal Justice program, and Michael Gray, former president of the Criminal Justice Club and a Westwood College graduate, helped organize the fundraising effort. “This event was very rewarding for everyone involved,” said Gray. “With the help of the Criminal Justice Club and other staff, faculty and students at Westwood College, we raised a sizeable amount of money and helped Misericordia reach its $1 million goal. Everyone involved should be very proud of that achievement as the work Misericordia does in the community is tremendously beneficial.”
The Chicago Loop campus was given special recognition at a banquet and awards dinner hosted by the Misericordia Foundation. Cooper and Gray were honored for their outstanding contributions and efforts to the cause. For more information on Misericordia, visit www.misericordia.com.
