Student Financing - Grants

Grants provide resources that do not have to be repaid by the student or the student's family. Federal grant programs and several state grant programs are available to qualifying students.*

Federal Pell Grant

The Federal Pell Grant is a program designed to provide assistance to any eligible undergraduate student pursuing postsecondary education. Federal Pell Grants are awarded to students who have not already earned a bachelor's degree. For many students, this grant provides a foundation of financial aid to which other aid may be added. A Pell Grant award for the 2008-09 award year (July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009) can vary from $400 to $4,731, depending on a student's financial need and the cost of attendance. For the 2009-10 award year (July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010), the maximum award is $5,350. Grant amounts may vary from year to year depending upon federal funding, and may be reduced if the student is attending less than full-time.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) program is for undergraduates with exceptional financial need. Because it is a grant program, an FSEOG doesn't have to be paid back. There's no guarantee every eligible student will receive an FSEOG; students at each school may be awarded an FSEOG based on eligibility and the availability of funds to that school. At Westwood College these grants are limited to degree programs only. An FSEOG can give you up to $1,800 a year, depending on when you apply, your level of need, and the funding level of the school you're attending.

Cal Grant

Students who are California residents may be eligible for a grant from the State of California, known as a Cal Grant. Eligibility is based upon financial need and grade point average. The Cal Grant program is only offered at the California campuses. The application deadline for the Cal Grant program is the first Monday in March of each year. Cal Grants do not have to be paid back. Contact the financial aid office at the California campus you will be attending for additional information.
