Courses in Surveying

Land surveying is needed in virtually every construction project, excavating project, and whenever boundaries need to be assessed. Surveying courses range from Surveying Drafting Basics to Electronic Surveying and Advanced Survey Math. Students learn AutoCAD, a computer-aided design program that is used widely throughout the drafting and surveying industry. Students also take courses in the more professional aspects of the industry, such as Boundary Law and Public Lands.

One of the courses taken by students during their surveying training is Field Surveying Basics. In this class students learn proper operation of modern measuring devices in a number of ways. Students do field exercises, angle and distance measurements, differential leveling for elevation changes and determination of survey and/or surveyed lives. The course also includes training in the requirements, tolerances and expectations of field personnel in the surveying industry.
