The Higher Learning Commission invites comments about Westwood College

Denver, Colo (March 21, 2007) - Westwood College will undergo an HLC candidacy evaluation visit starting on May 14, 2007. A team representing The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools will visit all Westwood College campuses.

The Higher Learning Commission is one of six accrediting agencies in the United States that provide institutional accreditation on a regional basis. Institutional accreditation evaluates an entire institution and accredits it as whole. Other agencies provide accreditation for specific programs or specific campuses. HLC accreditation is voluntary. The commission accredits approximately 1100 institutions of higher education in a nineteen-state region. The commission is recognized by the U.S Department of Education.

For the past two and a half years, Westwood College has been engaged in a process of self study, addressing the Commission's requirements and criteria for accreditation. The evaluation team will visit Westwood College campuses to gather evidence that the self study is thorough and accurate and that the college is ready for the HLC candidacy. Following the review, the team will make a decision if they would recommend to the Commission a candidacy status for the college. The Commission itself will take the final action.

The public is invited to submit comments regarding the college:
